Under the direction of the Senior Director of Health & Youth Impact, the Director of Healthy Living is responsible for the direct oversight of the wellness department including Wellness Center Associates, personal trainers, and group exercise instructors and managing the operations and budget for the department. 

Location: Boroughs Family Branch YMCA, 4 Valiente Drive, Westborough MA 

Job Type: Full-Time Exempt

Schedule: Hours may vary but hours will typically be Sunday - Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm and will also include occasional nights, Friday and weekend shifts based on needs. 

Pay: $47,476 yearly

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in a Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or Exercise Science or health related field. Will accept a minimum of three or more years of experience working in a Wellness Center or recreation facility preferable in a nonprofit setting. 
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience with increasing responsibilities. 
  • Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training.
  • Able to direct programs, provide supervision of volunteers & staff, monitor budgets, marketing wellness programs & fundraising. 
  • Must be knowledgeable and able to operate computer software programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills & experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications within first 60 days of hire. 
Essential Functions

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the Wellness Department including supervision of staff, programs, and budget responsibilities. 
  • Direct Supervision of all group exercise instructors 
  • Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, supervision, recognition, and terminations for all Wellness staff under the direction of the Senior Experience Director. 
  • Ensure all group exercise instructors are in compliance with the minimum education, certification, and/or continuing education requirements of the department.
  • Oversee general management, cleanliness, and upkeep of the group exercise and spinning studios, wellness center and related equipment. 
  • Assume responsibility for the development and marketing of health and fitness programming including brochures, incentive programs, bulletin boards, email newsletters ect. 
  • Supervise floor staff in the wellness department ensuring that the wellness center is adequately staffed to answer or address any member concerns 
  • Execute wellness staff meetings and continuing education programs for personal trainers and wellness floor staff
  • Teach or lead classes in the wellness department and have scheduled hours covering the wellness department at least 10 hours per week, which may include weekends.
  • Responsible for equipment maintenance ensuring a timely manner or repair of equipment and for supplies of wellness-related marketing materials including program brochures, workout cards, orientation folders, office supplies ect. 
  • Responsible for New Member Orientation program including schedule creation, facilitation, providing orientations and follow up as needed for members. Serve as the primary contact for the Active Older Adults programming including scheduling and leading exercise programs. 
  • Work with the Director of Health & Youth Impact to develop, monitor, and achieve Wellness budget goals annually including the responsibility of revenue and expenditures.
  • Participate in YMCA of the USA Leadership Competency Career Development Program and obtain Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification. 
  • Participate as requested on any branch committees or task forces and attend regular scheduled meetings with the wellness mission impact team, branch leadership staff and one-on-ones with the Director of Health & Youth Impact. 
  • Any other duties assigned.

  • Related fitness certifications including but not limited to; personal training, group exercise instruction (yoga, pilates, HIIT, Les Mills, cycling ect.)
