The Facilities Technician is responsible for maintaining the safe and efficient operation of all the swimming pool, aquatic features, decks, equipment rooms and associated pool equipment in YGB. This role includes monitoring and servicing the pool’s water quality, equipment, and facilities to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all users. The Technician will work closely with Aquatics and Facilities teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and comply with all health codes, permitting and safety regulations.
• Education and Experience
o High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical certifications or training in pool maintenance or facilities management required.
o Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in pool maintenance.
• Certifications
o Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification required.
o Certified Maintenance Specialist (CMS) or Commercial Service Technician (CST) required within 6 months of hire.
o CPR and First Aid Certification preferred.
• Skills and Abilities
o Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of pool equipment, plumbing, and water treatment systems.
o Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues, perform light plumbing tasks, and manage pool chemicals safely.
o Ability to respond and work a flexible schedule, early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.
o Knowledge of health and safety regulations for aquatic facilities.
o Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
• The ability to lift 75-100 pounds and perform tasks requiring physical exertion, such as bending, reaching, and use of a ladder.
• Comfortable working around chemicals and in wet or humid environments.
• Pool Maintenance and Operation
o Perform checks on water quality, including chlorine, calcium, alkalinity, TDS, CYA, LSI, and pH levels, and adjust as necessary to maintain safe standards.
o Inspect and repair filtration systems, pumps, heaters, controllers, chemical pumps, UV, VFD and other mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
o Backwash and clean pool filters as required to maintain water clarity.
o Monitor chemical inventory, handle chemicals safely, and follow proper procedures for chemical storage and usage.
• Safety and Compliance
o Ensure the pool environment meets health codes and standards, adhering to all industry standards best practices, YGB guidelines, local, state, and federal regulations.
o Conduct routine safety inspections, document findings, and address any maintenance or safety issues promptly.
o Respond immediately to any incidents or emergencies related to the pool area.
• Preventative Maintenance and Repairs
o Perform preventative maintenance tasks on pool equipment and facilities, identifying potential issues and addressing them before they impact pool operations.
o Collaborate with contractors for larger repairs or upgrades as needed.
o Maintain records of maintenance activities and repairs, ensuring accurate logs for compliance and performance reviews.
o Assist in seasonal opening and closing procedures for outdoor pools.
• Collaboration and Customer Service
o Work closely with Aquatics staff to support programming needs, adjusting schedules for maintenance to minimize program disruption.
o Assist Aquatics and Facilities teams both on site and remotely in troubleshooting issues and coordinating repairs to meet organizational goals.
o Provide excellent customer service, assisting pool patrons and responding to concerns related to pool facilities.
