Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of School Age Care and in accordance with the mission and purpose of the YMCA, the Assistant Director of School Age Care is responsible for providing guidance, assistance, and training to Site Supervisors in the overall management, supervision, and program planning of the Before and After School Programs, in accordance with YMCA guidelines and state licensing requirements. In addition, they may be asked to help keep the preschool within ratio.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

· High school diploma required; College Degree preferred.

· At least six (6) hours of training in childcare and at least three (3) hours in Child Program Management.

· Four (4) years Supervisory experience in Child Care.

Essential Functions

1. Works with Site Supervisors in the overall management, supervision and daily operation of the Before and After School Programs. Maintains daily staffing ensuring appropriate staff to child ratios at each site.

2. Will work with the Director of Recruitment and Staff Development to identify what positions are needed to be filled, assist in the interview process, onboard the staff, and place at a site.

3. Works with Director and Site Supervisors to plan, supervise, and implement curricula as outlined in the YMCA School-Age Care Curriculum, with an emphasis on SEL programming.

4. Works with Director and Site Supervisors introducing new initiatives to add value to the program as opportunities become available.

5. Provides direction and guidance to School Age Staff, assists in staff training, and provides verbal feedback of their performance.

6. Develops staff implementing strategies that build teamwork and encourage professional development.

7. Demonstrates the ability to set and maintain limits for children using positive reinforcement and model for staff.

8. Maintains effective communication with parents of children in the Before and After School Programs. Keeps the Director informed. Schedules and attends parent conferences as needed.

9. Visits each assigned school minimally once per week resolving any potential hazards immediately.

10. Maintains effective communication with Elementary School Administration.

11. Oversees Supervisor's responsibility for the maintenance of equipment and supplies, and cleanup of work and play areas.

12. Ensures that there is a nutritional snack and beverage available for all children on a daily basis. Reviews shopping receipts ensuring the sites operate within the approved fiscal budget.

13. Assists Supervisors with maintaining the general orderliness of the sites both inside and outside.

14. Works with Program Office Manager on a regular basis to obtain current program rosters, Child Care Connection vouchers and monthly tuition receipts.

15. Works in harmony and cooperation with all appropriate staff, volunteers, and members of the YMCA.

16. Attends all required staff meetings.

17. Has the ability to evaluate the program/staff. Implements program surveys, staff surveys and reviews to improve the program.

18. Ensures the staff complete 20 hours of continuing staff development each year in the following areas: Child Growth and Development, Positive Guidance and Discipline and Health and Safety.

19. Models and teaches the character development values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

20. Ensures that each Site Supervisor maintains time clock accuracy on a daily basis and transmits payroll according to the payroll schedule.

21. Adheres to YMCA dress code for professional staff and maintain School Age Care uniform dress code for Site Supervisors and Site Assistants.

22. Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.

23. Performs other related duties as assigned or as necessary. Remains flexible and adaptable in work schedules and work assignments as defined by departmental and organizational needs.

24. Represents the Hamilton Area YMCA in a manner that conveys professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, fairness, personal integrity, and respect for others.

Required Certifications

The Assistant Director must minimally obtain the certifications required by the State of New Jersey, Office of Licensing for School Age Care Directors.
