The Wilderness and Group Camping Director leads BOLD and GOLD programs, group camping, and summer camp operations at YMCA Camp Hi-Rock. This role ensures safe, inclusive, and innovative programming that fosters youth development, builds community, and supports staff growth. Responsibilities include supervising daily operations, managing certifications and compliance, training staff, and strengthening community partnerships. Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two seasons in a summer resident camp or comparable setting (e.g., unit director, ropes course director, wilderness trip leader).
At least two years of experience in developing and implementing youth programs, with a preference for wilderness trips and ropes course management.
Strong communication skills, including written and verbal, with proven success in engaging parents and youth.
Leadership abilities in training, supervising, and developing staff and volunteers.
Problem-solving expertise and sound judgment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and WordPress.
Capable of lifting/moving 25-50 pounds, navigating rugged terrain, and working extended hours during the summer season.
Program Leadership:
Supervise daily operations of BOLD, GOLD, group camping, and summer camp programs.
Develop and implement innovative, inclusive programs to engage youth and foster peer connections.
Staff Management:
Recruit, train, and coach staff and volunteers to ensure programs are adequately staffed.
Foster a positive, supportive work environment aligned with YMCA values.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure all programs operate in compliance with YMCA policies, licensing standards, ACA accreditation, and local/state laws.
Oversee challenge course operations, ensuring safety standards are consistently met.
Facilities and Equipment:
Manage facility and equipment needs for all supervised programs.
Ensure resources are well-maintained and meet regulatory and program requirements.
Community Outreach and Engagement:
Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, such as PTAs and service clubs.
Participate in community events and promote YMCA programs to increase awareness and participation.
Collaboration and Leadership:
Contribute to YMCA special events, branch leadership meetings, and board activities.
Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance personal and professional growth.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Assist in alumni relations and support grant compliance and reporting as required.
Ensure all operational records and documentation are accurate and up-to-date.
Program Leadership:
Supervise daily operations of BOLD, GOLD, group camping, and summer camp programs.
Develop and implement innovative, inclusive programs to engage youth and foster peer connections.

Required: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, AED, Oxygen Administration, Challenge Course Operator/Manager, Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguard.
Preferred: Open Water Rescue certification.
YMCA Team Leader certification to be completed within 18 months of hire.
