Job Description

The Director of Health Innovation is responsible for the advancement of the State Alliance of Michigan YMCAs and its member Ys by promoting the expansion and sustainability of healthy living programs. The Director of Health Innovation will work with Y-USA, Michigan YMCAs, and various partners and payers to create pathways for referrals, delivery and support,  and reimbursement/payment for YMCA disease prevention programs and other membership programs, and support other health innovation opportunities.

The position reports to the Chief Partnership Officer and works closely with the State Alliance contract lobbyist and Public Policy Chair.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in health science, or related field.

  • YMCA Mult-Team certification preferred or will be obtained within the first two years of employment.

  • At least 5 years of experience in YMCA chronic disease prevention programs.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal, verbal/written communication, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work independently as an active and engaged member of a team.

  • Respectful of and responsive to different communication styles of colleagues.

  • Understand the importance of and places high value on diversity and inclusion.

  • Familiarity with the YMCA movement, culture, mission and purpose.

  • Travel within Michigan up to 20%. Travel outside of Michigan is required occasionally and will be determined by grant requirements.

Essential Functions

 Lead the State Alliance YUSA Diabetes Prevention Grant  and Health Innovation work:

  • Represent the State Alliance of Michigan YMCAs on the YUSA Project Leadership Group (PLG) 

  •  Lead all Alliance work related Y USA Diabetes Prevention Grant and Health Innovation. 

  • Co-chair a Y USA Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) working group. 

  • Engage community partners to expand YMCA DPP and Health Innovation delivery.

  • Collaborate with local YMCA leadership to build statewide capacity.

  • Represent the State Alliance of Michigan YMCAs on appropriate state level network groups.  

  • Support advocacy strategies to secure state level funding for DPP and Health Innovation Programs.

  • Create business/marketing plans for DPP and Health Innovation Programs.

Secure Payer Networks 

  • Identify and secure third-party payer relationships for Michigan YMCA programs including programs for adults, youth, and general membership 

  • Develop marketing plan for third-party reimbursement activities

  • Facilitate third-party pay work group, monthly meetings. 

  • Work with YUSA to and other State Alliances to expand opportunities for payer engagement. 

Alliance Support and Activities: 

  • Participate on the Alliance Leaders Committee and support/design a public policy track for attendees.

  • Support Senior Director of Advocacy through the development of policy briefs and presentations relevant to work. 

  • Attend meetings as determined by the Alliance CPO. Including but not limited to: State Alliance meetings, staff gatherings, network events. 

  • Support the Alliance as a subject matter expert when appropriate.

General Functions: 

  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of the State Alliance of Michigan YMCAs; promote character development and the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

  • Attend Alliance in-person and zoom meetings as assigned, including but not limited to Leaders Conference, CEO meetings, statewide network meetings, Alliance staff huddles.

  • Comply with all policies and procedures, including but not limited to HR and finances.

  • Promote the value of diversity and the importance of being an inclusive organization to others inside and outside of the organization.

  • Represent the YMCA as needed through various groups, organizations, and/ or coalitions. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community and state organizations.

  • Special projects as assigned. This is not intended to be all-inclusive. It is understood that the employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties if requested by the supervisor.

Work Environment: 

This position works remotely from a home office within Michigan. A company laptop computer and other necessary home office equipment and supplies will be provided, with the option of using personal equipment. Local, statewide and national travel required. 

Compensation:

Salary range of $63,500-$71,500 per year, depending on qualifications. Medical and dental benefits and retirement are provided along with generous vacation and sick time.

This is a grant-funded position, therefore is contingent on the Alliance's continued level of funding throughout the duration of the position.
