Job Description
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Youth Development and in accordance with the policies of the YMCA of the Triangle, the Association Director of Y Guides is responsible for department administration, leadership, program development and implementation of the Y Guides Program and ensuring alignment with broader Association family programs and engagement strategy. This position will work with the Vice President of Youth Development and collaboratively with branch and overnight camp staff members to strengthen relationships between the Y and families by assisting with aligning, bolstering, implementing and developing the family engagement opportunities across our YMCA.
Qualifications
- A baccalaureate undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is preferred with at least 4 years of youth and/or family programs experience.
- Models a commitment to the YMCA Mission, Purpose, values and leadership competency model.
- Proven and demonstrated skills in public speaking, human relations, relationship building and engagement, program management, and volunteer development.
- Exceptional computer skills and experience in MS Office suite with an ability to learn new and emerging platforms quickly.
- Maintain necessary certifications including but not limited to CPR and First Aid.
- Demonstrates a broad understanding of Youth Development, Sports, Recreation and Outdoor Activities, and should be a competent leader in several such activities.
- Strong ability around marketing and communication for the vision of growth and improvement of the Y Guides program across the Triangle.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
Essential Functions
- Hires, onboards, trains, supervises, and leads the YGuides Senior Program Directors.
- Leads Y Guides Program and Events on evenings and weekends throughout the year including:
- Camp Rockmont Outings (1 week move-in time, 4 four-day weekends in the fall)
- Camp Kanata Fall Outings (5 three-day weekends)
- Spring Outings at Camp Sea Gull and Seafarer (1 week move-in time, 5 four-day weekends in the spring)
- First-Year Dad and Captains Meetings (8 evenings throughout the year)
- One-Day Weekend Events: Flight Day, Polar Bear Swims (5-6), Drive-In Movie, Daddy-Daughter Dance, Winter Inning
- Responsible for ensuring that YGuides is connected to the broader YMCA of the Triangle’s family engagement strategy in partnership and collaboration with key staff, branches and Association departments, facilitating experiences where families spend quality time together, are active together and serve together.
- Accountable for oversight of the Y Guides Program's $3MM budget. Additionally, in collaboration with Financial Planning and Analysis conducts a cost analysis of program revenue and expenses to ensure sound fiscal practices and approaches to program delivery.
- Provides collaborative leadership, partnership and support in YMCA of the Triangle signature family events: YMCA Families On! Challenge, Finley Freedom Festival, Family Camp (Kanata and Sea Gull Seafarer), Y Guides Weekends and others as needed/developed.
- Collaborates with colleagues, membership teams and branch and Association departments to ensure that Y Guides is a part of the continuum of quality family engagement events and programs.
- Responsible for identifying opportunities to gather data and in turn using that data to make decisions in that grow YGuides and engagement and participation within the YMCA of the Triangle.
- Intentionally work cross-branch and cross-departmentally within the YMCA of the Triangle to continue to position and strengthen Y Guides.
- Ensures a high-quality program through innovative program development, evaluations and ongoing training of staff.
- In collaboration and partnership with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department ensures all Family Programs are welcoming, diverse and inclusive.
- Accountable and responsible for the Y Guides annual campaign raising $150,000+ through strategic volunteer recruitment, making specific asks, setting goals for success and developing strategies and resources to support a strong, appropriate and successful spirit of philanthropy within these programs.
- Leads the engagement and directs the work of the Y Guides Advisory Board, Committees and Task Forces.
- In collaboration and partnership with Marketing & Communications, develops and supports the Y Guides, marketing and promotional plan. Additionally, ensures strong brand and program communication to program participants and the community.
- Coordinates business operations in collaborations with other YMCA of the Triangle departments including customer service, marketing, communications, information technology, procurement, finance, human resources and financial development.
- Serves on assigned Association Teams and committees deemed appropriate.
