Job Description

This position supervises daily pool activities and is responsible for proactively communicating and maintaining a safe pool atmosphere while preventing accidents. The purpose of this position is to provide a positive role model for members as well as fellow aquatic staff and to create a character-developing atmosphere. In addition to lifeguard and swim lesson duties, this position assists the aquatic director with scheduling, hiring, training, and supervising lifeguards.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:Completes required abuse risk management training. Adheres to policies and procedures related to appropriate boundaries with children. Monitors building, staff and members and reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations to supervisor. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements to authorities
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to pass lifeguard certification course
- Must be able to remain alert
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Adequate ability to hear noises and distinguish distress signals
- Ability to continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision
- Ability to perform strenuous physical tasks necessary for a water rescue
- Ability to communicate verbally, including projecting voice across distance in normal and loud situations
- Work in a wet/humid environment and come into contact with chlorine.
- Exposure to indoor or outdoor elements
- Ability to lift 25 pound Noise level-High

Essential Functions
- Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
- Maintain all required certifications.
- Take complete responsibility for scheduled hours and, if necessary, follow the appropriate substitute procedures and cover shifts when necessary.
- Follow weekly work schedule requirements as set forth by the Executive Director.
- Work special events.
- Create lifeguard staff schedules.
- Plan and conduct monthly in-services.
- Conduct regular lifeguard audits and pool emergency drills.
- Maintain up-to–date staff and staff training
- Assist in pool maintenance, safety, and cleanliness.
- Cover open lifeguard shifts and finding substitute staff.
- Required to obtain at least 1 trainer level certification within the first 6 months of employment.
- Maintain pool log sheets and other log sheets as required by the YMCA of Greater Louisville.
- Keep inventory of pool supplies
