This position is part of a partnership between the YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District.
Job Description
The Preschool Teacher will be responsible for adhering to all training and instructional requirements of the Medford School District, the Department of Education (“DOE”), and the Department of Children and Families (“DCF”). The position will fall under the general supervision of the YMCA of the Pines’ Executive Director of School Age Child Care, but will also be monitored and supported by instructional, administrative, and support staff from within the Medford School District. The preschool teacher will be responsible for student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through the implementation of district approved curriculum; documentation of student progress, activities, and outcomes; and the creation of a student-centered learning environment.
This is a school-year position dependent on the Medford School District calendar. The schedule is 8:15am - 3:45 pm and include monthly staff meetings following the traditional workday and attendance at evening events throughout the school year.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
- Valid New Jersey Elementary Education Certificate (P-3)
- First Aid and CPR certification (provided as needed)
- Ability to pass multiple background checks, including NJ-mandated Child Abuse Records Information, and Criminal History Records Information
Essential Functions
- Implement curriculum consistent with goals and objectives of YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District;
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, and provide individualized, small group, and whole class instruction in accordance with approved curriculum and materials, being mindful of the needs of each pupil;
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom;
- Evaluate pupils’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports and student evaluations;
- Provide effective and timely communication with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil progress;
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff from both the YMCA of the Pines and the Medford School District in assessing and supporting pupils with health, social, emotional, and/or academic challenges
- Maintain professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education activities provided by YMCA of the Pines and Medford School District, performance evaluations, and selected professional growth activities as described in individual professional improvement plans and other relevant education opportunities;
- Maintain the health and safety of all pupils, including, but not limited to: application of basic first aid, support with diapering and toileting, and assistance with general health and hygiene;
- Supervise classroom staff to ensure that they are upholding all DOE and DCF requirements, using proper verbal interaction, proper learn through play techniques, and age-appropriate redirection as a form of discipline;
- Select and requisition books and instructional aids, maintain required inventory records;
- Administer pupil assessment instruments in accordance with district testing policy and program; interpret the result and plan instruction accordingly;
- Uphold and enforce program rules and DCF requirements;
- Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities as assigned; and
- Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the Executive Director or Director may assign from time to time.
