Aquatics Director

The YMCA of Catawba Valley Association is looking for an Aquatic Director for the Hickory Foundation YMCA branch located in Hickory, NC.
Job Description

Under the general direction of the Associate Executive Director and consistent with the Christian mission and the policies and procedures set forth by the YMCA of Catawba Valley, the Aquatics Director will provide direction and leadership to the Aquatics departments at the Hickory Foundation YMCA and Phifer Family YMCA and work in conjunction with other staff to achieve Association goals. As a member of the professional staff, the Aquatics Director is a constructive member of the YMCA whose major priority is to serve the members of the YMCA with the highest quality of programming and facilities available.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Sports Management, Fitness Management, or related field and/or commensurate experience.

·         Must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and supervisory experience with YMCA or like organization.

·         Strong understanding of fiscal management and budget process.

·         Highly developed organization skills and the ability to motivate and develop staff.

·         Current certifications in, or the ability to obtain, First Aid, CPR, Lifeguard Instructor Training, Oxygen, Certified Pool Operator, and USA Swimming Credentials.

·         Must be responsive to members and program participants.

·         Must be attentive to details, well organized, able to meet deadlines, take initiative to solve problems, be proactive in decision making, and work with little supervision.

·         Strong background in Aquatic programming with at least 2 years of experience preferred.

·         Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures for the facility.

·         Understanding of risk management issues and safety requirements for the facility and program areas.

·         Must have strong oral and written communication skills with volunteers, members, and parents.

Essential Functions

·         Programming: All aspects of Aquatics programming (Group & Private Swim lessons, Lifeguard Training, etc)

·         Budget: Development, implementation, and monitoring of Aquatics department budgets

·         Facility: Oversees the daily operations of the aquatics facilities at the Hickory Foundation YMCA and the Phifer Family YMCA in accordance with NC Healthcare standards and promotes and schedules pool rentals as needed

·         Supervision: Secures, schedules and provides direct supervision to lifeguards, swim instructors

·         Trainings: provides regularly scheduled lifeguard trainings for potential YMCA lifeguards, provides quarterly CPR/First Aid trainings for branch staff, and provides lifeguard and CPR/First Aid trainings to the public as needed.

·         Philanthropy: Achieving goal for annual fundraising efforts

·         Events: Attend YMCA events and others as assigned

·         Manager on Duty: assumes MOD responsibilities as scheduled

·         Assumes other duties as assigned by the Associate Executive Director

Required Certifications
