Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.  The Associate Executive Director (AED) will provide leadership to the YMCA Center for supervision of day-to-day operations.  The role of the AED may provide association-wide support in an assigned area.

Hiring Range $55,000 - $65,000

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to adapt to new software.

Must have reliable transportation.  Travel around the Greater Kansas City area is required.

 

Essential Functions

Center Leadership

  • Under the vision and strategy of the Center Executive Director or assigned leader, provides leadership to the day-to-day operations of the center.
  • Oversees the hiring, training and development and supervision of direct reports.
  • Supports the center strategic planning efforts and enforces the annual operating business plan for the center.
  • Creates an environment that delivers world-class customer service throughout the center.  Works with the center teams to continually improve member and participant engagement and experience.  Delivers a successful membership strategy for overall membership and program impact.
  • Develops and directs high-quality member engagement strategies and programs which support center and association goals and strategies.  Establishes plans for the expansion of programs and services in harmony with overall YMCA objectives and leadership.  Fosters a climate of innovation to develop member-focused programs which support the Y mission, goals and strategies.
  • Provides direct leadership to a designated department (s).

Finance

  • Manages the budgeting process so that resources are devoted to top priorities and strategic objectives.  Ensures the performance of the center meet or exceed fiscal targets.

Fundraising

  • Supports the Annual Campaign. Provides leadership to the associate campaign and assists with events, communications and storytelling to share the impact and needs of the YMCA. 

Facilities

  • Ensures the safety and maintenance of high-quality facilities, grounds, and equipment. 

Community

  • Effectively communicates community benefits and the Y’s impact for all stakeholders (e.g., associates, volunteers, members, program participants and community leaders) to develop positive partnerships and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Creates an inclusive environment to builds bridges within the community to ensure all segments of society have access to the Y.
  • Attends community functions and events to promote the Y, including mission, programs and services.

Association

  • Serves as a member of YMCA of Greater Kansas City leadership team and supports the overall objectives of the Y.
  • Ensures compliance with association policies and procedures.
  • Participates in assigned committees, teams, trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Serves as liaison to assigned Association Resource Center (ARC) departments and staff.
