Job Description

Responsible for implementing policies, procedures, processes, and training necessary to help prevent and reduce incidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards by YMCA employees, members, youth participants, and guests. Develop and direct safety initiatives/projects within all branches, camps, and facilities owned and/or leased by the YMCA of San Francisco.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience in a related field.
  • Experience working with and knowledge of local, state, and federal safety rules and regulations (CAL OSHA, OSHA).
  • Experience with root cause analysis, incident investigation, safety assessments, and developing, implementing, and evaluating written safety plans.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple disciplines to implement policies and procedures. 
  • Experience in communicating with members of the public in a service environment. 
  • Ability to communicate risk-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff. 
  • Experience with aquatic safety and/or facility management.
  • Experience with camp facility safety and/or management.
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills with the ability to identify and analyze trends/issues.  
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Office 365. 
  • Ability to travel throughout San Francisco, Marin, and San Mateo Counties.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to make sound business judgments promptly and demonstrated experience with prioritizing under time pressures.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Insurance or OSHA experience, training, certifications.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish 
Essential Functions
  • Maintain awareness of Association activities to evaluate potential risk management exposures. 
  • Manages compliance with Covid -19 regulations, including but not limited to health department reporting, staff training, policy updates and related communications.
  • Identify risk exposures through evaluation of worker’s comp. loss trends; generate reports for Assoc. Director of Risk and Legal (ADRL).
  • Investigate serious employee accidents, perform root cause analysis for preventing future occurrences. 
  • Investigate and analyze aquatic emergencies. 
  • Communicate regularly with operations staff on safety and loss control matters. 
  • Develop and implement safety initiatives for the Association. Ensure all policies, procedures, and trainings are compliant with all regulatory and industry standards. 
  • Support and audit all functions of branch safety committees, including AED/CPR skill drills, emergency drills, emergency preparedness, and emergency action plans.
  • Organize Safety Committee Chairs meetings at least bi-annually.
  • Coordinate and provide technical expertise and oversight for accident investigations, job hazard analysis, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene.
  • Update and monitor Illness & Injury Prevention Plans (e.g., Blood-borne Pathogens, Hazard Communications, Heat Illness, Covid-19 prevention, Workplace Violence Prevention).
  • Conduct audits, including facility safety audits, aquatic safety and compliance audits, and Safety Committees audits, OSHA compliance audits, and other audits as needed.
  • Provide written audit reports and audit summaries to ADLR and other management.
  • Evaluate, recommend, update, and facilitate safety trainings, in partnership with Training Department. 
  • Deliver compliance safety trainings during new-hire orientations. 
  • Advise management staff at all levels across operating entities of the YMCA regarding issues related to safety and regulatory compliance (including OSHA, CA building code, ADA, Title 22).
  • Effectively manage regulatory compliance with all applicable regulatory standards.
  • Partner with internal and external peers, staff, and management to maintain positive interpersonal relationships. 
  • Identify and assess the potential risk exposures that may hinder the reputation, safety, security, and financial prosperity of the YMCA.
  • Develop proactive processes, systems, tools, and metrics to drive safety, continuous improvement, and measure performance.
  • Provide support to all branches, camps, and facilities on safety related matters including OSHA requirements, loss trends, loss exposures, and mitigation strategies. 
  • Perform research as needed on new/updated city, county, state, and CDC health orders, guidelines, Health and Safety plans, and Cal/OSHA emergency standards.
  • Revising Health and Safety protocols, guidelines, and IPPs, as needed. 
  • Update Covid-19 investigation form as needed. 
  • Update covid protocols and close contact letter templates, get materials translated. Maintain data base of such materials on Teams. 
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Complete all mandatory ADP LMS safety training and Y-USA e-Learning before the first shift in the facility
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Coordinates safety committee meetings and leads safety best practices
  • Uphold and role models YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
