POSITION SUMMARY:

The Monroe County YMCA is seeking a dynamic Youth and Family Program Director to provide direction, leadership, and oversight of Youth and Family programming with an emphasis on Summer Camp and creating new Youth Enrichment offerings. This individual will serve as the catalyst in the enhancement of current and development of future Youth and Family program initiatives. The Director and their team will also oversee Family Events, Birthday Parties, Play & Learn, Parents Night Out (PNO), Safe Sitter, and other outreach and family programs. The Director will serve as the immediate supervisor of three coordinators, having direct responsibility in carrying out existing and new Youth and Family programs at our two branches.   

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development, K-12 education, special education, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Direct experience in behavior management.
  • Demonstrated record of program development and assessment.
  • Direct experience in planning or working with a respective camp program.
  • Three to five years of experience in supervision, administration, fiscal management, relationship building, and program development.
  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must have the physical ability to lead and participate in various activities.
  • Within 30 days of hire, complete Child Abuse Prevention, CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogen, and other required trainings.

 

Essential Functions

 

Related to Program Development

  • Coordinate, improve, and provide direction for the Summer Camp operation at both Monroe County YMCA Branches.
  • Deliver programs of exceptional quality to the YMCA community through continuous improvement of systems and program delivery strategies.  
  • Provide direct leadership and supervision by being actively engaged and on-site with staff in program development and facilitation.
  • In collaboration with coordinators and other staff, plan and execute youth and family special events.
  • Conduct program assessments with an emphasis on member and program participant satisfaction. Provide concrete recommendations for actionable improvement based on feedback.
  • Facilitate and guide the teaching of character development in all program areas.
  • Serve as primary contact between Y Camp and camp families throughout the summer months, assisting with refunds, moves, issues, and general camp inquiries.

 

Staffing, Supervision, and Volunteer Relations

  • Possess an equally strong commitment to the mentoring of both entry-level and seasoned staff members.
  • Develop a comprehensive onboarding and training program that focus on the continuous development of job-related competencies that will contribute to the successful delivery of youth programs.
  • Participate in all facets related to staffing the Youth and Family operation, including but not limited to candidate screening, interviewing, performing annual reviews, and employee coaching.

 

Fiscal Management

  • Responsible for the construction and stewardship of program operational budgets, monthly reporting on budgets, and achievement of program financial benchmarks.
  • Pursue grant and other external funding sources that may support existing and future youth programs and opportunities here at the Monroe County YMCA.

 

General Administrative

  • Responsible for managing all electronic and other forms of records.
  • Responsible for time card management and payroll approval processes for direct reports.
  • Work closely with the Marketing Department in the development of both print and electronic promotional materials to advance youth and family programs.
  • Participate in, collaborate with, and support other YMCA special events and programs.
  • Participate in development and coordination of room and court schedules.
