The Summit Area YMCA (SAY) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Sports Director to join our Leadership Team. This role is perfect for a proactive leader with a love for sports and youth programming and a commitment to community engagement. The Sports Director develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA youth, teen and adult sports and youth enrichment programs across all YMCA sites and service area, ensuring they are inclusive, engaging, and impactful for all participants. They are responsible for staff supervision, fiscal management, program management and program development.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. 
  • A minimum of two years’ experience leading sports, recreation or youth programing. 
  • Demonstrated experience in sports instruction, working with diverse populations and development of community relationships.
  • A minimum of one year’s experience in budget management, and staff and volunteer supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated maturity and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours. 
  • Certified in CPR/ AED and First Aid, or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Essential Functions
  • Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates the youth and adult sports programs. 
  • Plans, implements supervises, and evaluates the youth enrichment programs.
  • Directs and supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives. Secures and schedules athletic fields and facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits.
  • Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts parent orientation meetings, and training and meetings for coaches.
  • Develops and distributes team practice and game schedules; trains and schedules sports officials; develops and distributes sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchases and distributes team uniforms and awards; coordinates and distributes team photographs.
  • Organizes and hosts season parties and events.
  • Organizes and conducts sports clinics, summer camp and programming.
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports and enrichment program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. May review and process program scholarship applications.
  • Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Has active role and accountability with Association Strategic Plan objectives.
  • Manages financial aspect of program including budget planning and monitoring, and managing the administrative functions and daily operations to ensure that programs are in compliance with local, state and YMCA policies. 
  • Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.
  • Works closely with Senor Program Director to ensure effective and efficient high quality programs and services.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor and executive leadership.

Required Certifications

Salary & Benefits:

This Full Time exempt level position, is generally scheduled to work 40 hour each with and may include night and weekend hours depending on program needs. The salary range for this role is $52,000- $55,000 annually and is based on experience.
