Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes and implements high quality, member-focused YMCA aquatic programs. 

Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience; ie: five years of related pool experience
  2. Minimum age of 21
  3. Training requirements typical for this Y-position include: completion of: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; Working with Program Volunteers; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens, POOL certification, PA Pesticide License, etc.
  4. Trainer certifications to train/certify swim instructors, lifeguards, ARC CPR, etc.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively
  6. Ability to use/learn technology used at the YMCA, ex: Microsoft products, DAXKO, etc.  
Essential Functions
  1. Directs and supervises aquatics program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new aquatics program activities and expands aquatics programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organization
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs aquatics personnel and volunteers as needed.  Reviews and evaluates aquatics staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate aquatics staff and achieve department goals. Ensures records of all aquatics staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  4. Conducts and ensures proper maintenance and cleaning of pools. Schedules the pool and ensures that the pool is secure. Maintains accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance.
  5. Conducts and coordinates lifeguarding, swim instruction, First Aid and CPR trainings.
  6. Performs the duties of lifeguard and swim instructor as needed. 
  7. Creates and schedules swim classes, water fitness classes, swim team practices and meets, all other activities that take place in the pool, and all department-related activities. 
  8. Conducts regular audit of the aquatic equipment and facilities making recommendations for repair, replacement as needed. 
  9. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  10. Participates in the planning of the annual budget; manages and implements the approved budget for aquatics and takes appropriate action to correct variances. 
  11. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program. Produces written reports to the CEO as requested.
  12. Takes a leadership role in the planning and coordination of branch wide events. 
  13. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  14. Serves as manage on duty as assigned.   
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. The pool is a safe environment at all times, as measured by YUSA and Praesidium tools
  2. The aquatics department and pool are running to the satisfaction of the members, users, parents of users, and the Y-leadership staff.
  3. The CEO is confident that the department is running well and operating at a high level of quality and professionalism
  4. Aquatic staff performing at increasingly higher levels; maintenance of positive morale amongst staff; high satisfaction of aquatic staff team
  5. Achievement of monthly aquatic department fiscal objectives
  6. Achievement of YMCA strategic plan objectives, as they relate to the department
